Statement by Senator Claude Carignan on the passing of the Hon. Marcel Prud’homme
Québec, January 25, 2017 – Senator Claude Carignan, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, made the following statement on the passing of the Hon. Marcel Prud’homme.
“It is with sadness that I learned of the death of former MP and Senator Marcel Prud’homme. Originally from the Saint-Eustache region which is in my Senate district, Mr. Prud’homme served our country for 46 years, first as a Member of Parliament then as a Senator. He was appointed to several parliamentary secretary positions and even held the title of longest-serving parliamentarian.
“In 2009, when I was appointed to the Senate, I had the good fortune to work with Senator Prud’homme for several months before he retired. I remember well his passion for foreign affairs and his willingness to contribute to diplomacy through dialogue and compromise.
“I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.”
